Jesus Said: You Must Be born Again

At the heart of this powerful message lies one of the most profound declarations Jesus ever made: 'You must be born again.' This isn't a suggestion or a recommendation—it's an absolute requirement for entering the kingdom of God. Through the story of Nicodemus, a religious leader who came to Jesus by night, we're reminded that religion, good works, church membership, and moral living cannot save us. Nicodemus had all the credentials—he was a teacher, a Pharisee, a ruler of the Jews—yet Jesus told him plainly that none of that mattered without spiritual rebirth. The message challenges our cultural tendency to create multiple pathways to heaven or to rely on our own goodness.

We're confronted with three crucial words: 'unless' (God's condition), 'cannot' (our inability), and 'must' (the mandate). This new birth isn't physical but spiritual—it's about being born of water and the Spirit, receiving a complete transformation that changes our very nature. The flesh cannot produce spiritual life; only the Holy Spirit can regenerate us. When we truly accept Christ, we move from darkness to light instantaneously, receiving a new nature that no longer desires sin.

This doesn't mean we won't be tempted, but it means the Spirit of God now resides within us, empowering us to resist and overcome. The call is clear: salvation comes through faith in Jesus Christ alone, and once we're born again, the Holy Spirit begins the lifelong work of sanctification, setting us apart and making us more like Christ each day.
